General Motors Adding 2,500 Jobs to their Hamtramck Plant:
General Motors is adding 2,500 jobs at the plant where it makes two hot models -- its Malibu midsize car and Volt extended-range electric sedan. That's a $69-million investment at the Hamtramck, Mich., plant.
Demand is so vigorous the cars that GM wants to the plant to be capable of running around-the-clock. And in Michigan, one of the states impacted the most by unemployment, GM will creating 1,200 new jobs in addition to bringing back 1,300 laid-off workers. The new workers will be paid about $14 an hour.
"Filling this plant with new work is very satisfying because GM is dedicated to helping rebuild this city," Mark Reuss, the company's North American president, said in a statement.
