Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

The policy of the State of Michigan as expressed in the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is that all persons, except those incarcerated in state or local correctional facilities, are entitled to full and complete infromation regarding the affairs of government and the official acts of those who represent them as public officials and public employees. MCL 15.231 et seq.

 

A person desiring to inspect or receive a copy of a public record must provide a written request to the FOIA Coordinator.  A written request made by facsimile or electronic mail is not considered to have been recieved by the FOIA Coordinator until one business day after the electronic transmission is made.  A response to a FOIA request will be made within (5) business days after the request is received, except that the City may extend the period for an additional (10) business days.

 

FOIA requests are subject to copy and research fees and may require a deposit when requests are estimated to exceed $50.
