ORGANIZATIONAL
AND MISSION STATEMENT
OF THE HAMTRAMCK FIRE DEPARTMENT
The
Hamtramck Fire Department’s mission is to protect the
lives and property of the citizen’s of the community.
We also strive to protect out personnel from hazards
and injury through training and safe work practices.
The
Hamtramck Fire department consists of 32 people. Of
these, 2 men hold administrative positions and are
assigned to a 40 hour, Monday through Friday work
week. These two positions include the Fire Chief who
is responsible for the department’s overall
administrative duties and all emergency operations,
and the Fire Marshal who oversees, fire prevention,
fire investigation, and public education.
The
firefighting division consists of 30 men divided into
2 units of 15 men each. Each unit includes 1 Captain,
2 Lieutenants, 3 Motor Engineers, and 9 Firefighters.
The minimal amount of personnel working each day is
seven. Of the seven, one fire fighter is assigned
dispatch duties.
The
Fire Department is responsible for putting out fires,
investigating the causes of fire and identifying
potential hazards (inspections).
The
Fire Department is also responsible for maintaining
around the clock Emergency Medical Service to the
community. 31 of the 32 members of the department are
currently certified as Emergency Medical Technicians.
Two fire fighters are assigned to the ambulance
daily. At the present time the department provides
basic life support service and transportation to local
hospitals.
The
Fire Department strives to have trained personnel on
and off the fireground. Safety is stressed at all
training sessions. All officers have Fire Officer I
training. The senior officers have Fire Officer II and
III training. All personnel have completed the
Hazardous Material Operations training course and the
Incident Command System. All drivers have taken the
Fire Fighters Training Councils course on driving and
most have completed a course on pumping apparatus.
In
2008 the Hamtramck Fire Department responded to 2,910
emergency runs. Of these 2,421 were medical calls.
The other 489 calls were fire or fire related calls.
In
the future we are confident that we will be able to
serve our community with consistent planning,
training, and leadership.
Respectfully
