General Clerk Job Description
- This is a union position through AFSCME Local 666, subject to union contract provisions.
- Under the direction of management, performs a variety of daily office tasks such as filing, recording, maintaining records, copying, posting, and other similar duties, using a computer, typewriter, and other word processors.
- Follows organization and department procedures to complete tasks in a timely manner and at times, may perform the work of other employees of lesser classifications.
- Clerical duties may be assigned in accordance with the office procedures of individual departments and may include a combination of answering telephones, bookkeeping, typing or word processing, stenography, office machine operation, and filing.
- Completes special projects as assigned and performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications and/or Requirements

- A high school diploma or its equivalent with 0-3 years of experience in the field or related area.
- Knowledge of office administration.
- Possess an ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering information.
- Skill in the use of general office equipment, including computers and related software.
- Skill in using Microsoft Office applications, with an emphasis on Excel Spreadsheet, required.
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
- Ability to interact professionally and constructively with other financial professionals, administrators, other employees, elected officials and the general public.
- Candidates are also expected to possess and maintain a record of orderly law-abiding citizenship, sobriety, integrity and loyalty, as it pertains to and reflects upon their employment with the City.
- Candidates must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential duties of their position without excessive absences.
- Candidates must possess a current and valid driver’s license and/or state identification card.
